Structure

Liposomes are small vesicles made of phospholipids – the same building blocks that the cell membranes in our body are made of. Cell membranes are responsible for transporting substances into and out of the cell. Liposomal technology uses this structure by encapsulating nutrients such as vitamins, minerals or plant-based active ingredients in a shell. The term "liposomal" therefore stands for encapsulation of active ingredients in a phospholipid-containing protective shell.

Liposomes offer a crucial advantage in the digestive tract: they protect sensitive nutrients from breakdown in the stomach and intestine. The phospholipid-containing shell forms a stable barrier that keeps the active ingredients intact until they reach the intestinal wall.
